Why Shih Tzus Make Incredible Family Dogs
Few breeds can match the Shih Tzu's combination of elegance, warmth, and adaptability. Bred for centuries as cherished companions in the imperial courts of China, these dogs have one purpose: to love their family unconditionally. They thrive in apartments, large homes, houses with yards or without — what matters most to a Shih Tzu is being near their people.
Shih Tzus are famously gentle with children, patient with toddlers, and affectionate with seniors. Their low-shedding, hypoallergenic-friendly coats make them one of the most popular choices for families who have mild pet allergies. They are playful without being hyperactive, and calm without being boring. A Shih Tzu will happily curl up on the couch after a short play session or a walk around the block.
At Royal Shih Tzu Puppies, we've spent over 15 years perfecting the temperament and health of our breeding lines. Every litter is raised in our living room — not in a kennel, not in a barn, but right alongside our family. That means your new puppy arrives already accustomed to household sounds, human touch, and the rhythm of daily family life.
Our Breeding Standards
We hold ourselves to strict standards that go well beyond the minimum requirements for AKC registration. Our breeding dogs are carefully selected for exceptional temperament, correct conformation to AKC breed standards, and proven health histories. We do not breed dogs with known genetic issues, and we retire our breeding females at an appropriate age to ensure their long-term wellbeing.
