Shih Tzu Puppies for Sale in Ohio

Ohio Families, Meet Your Perfect Companion

From the vibrant neighborhoods of Columbus and Cleveland to the rolling hills of Hocking County and the shores of Lake Erie, Ohio is a state where community and family are at the center of everyday life. It's no surprise that Ohioans consistently rank among the most dedicated dog owners in the country — and Shih Tzus fit Ohio living exceptionally well.

At Royal Shih Tzu Puppies, we have been breeding AKC-registered Shih Tzus from our living room in McKinney, Texas for more than 15 years. Every puppy is raised in our home, handled daily by our family, and socialized from birth so they arrive at your Ohio home calm, confident, and ready to bond. We don't operate a kennel — our puppies grow up exactly as your dog will live: in the warmth of a family home.

Why Shih Tzus Thrive in the Buckeye State

Ohio's population is wonderfully diverse — young professionals in Columbus's Short North, families in Westerville and Dublin suburbs, retirees in the lake communities of Sandusky and Port Clinton, and college towns like Athens and Oxford. Shih Tzus are one of the rare breeds that genuinely suit all of these lifestyles.

In urban settings, Shih Tzus are ideal. They don't require a yard — a daily walk through Columbus's Schiller Park or Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood satisfies their exercise needs beautifully. They're not heavy barkers, which makes apartment and condo living manageable for neighbors. Their low-shedding coat is a major plus for Ohio families who'd rather spend time enjoying their dog than vacuuming.

For Ohio families with children, Shih Tzus are patient and playful. The breed has an ancient history as a royal companion — bred to be gentle, affectionate, and attentive to human emotion. They get along beautifully with older children who understand how to handle a small dog with care, and they adapt well to multi-pet households.

Ohio's four seasons do require a few seasonal adjustments. Shih Tzus' double coat provides warmth in Cleveland's blustery winters, but their flat faces (brachycephalic) make them sensitive to extreme temperature shifts. Keep outdoor exposure brief during subzero weather, protect their paws from road salt, and during Cincinnati's humid summer heat, schedule walks for the cooler morning and evening hours.

Our Health Guarantee & AKC Standards

Ohio families deserve to know exactly what they're getting — and we make that easy. Every puppy we breed is AKC-registered, meaning both parents are registered purebred Shih Tzus with documented lineage. We select our breeding dogs for health, conformation, and temperament, and we health-test our parent dogs to minimize the risk of hereditary conditions.

Before your puppy makes the trip to Ohio, they receive:

• A complete veterinary examination and travel health certificate
• Initial DHPP vaccinations (age-appropriate)
• Multiple rounds of deworming treatment
• Microchip implanted and registered
• AKC registration application included

Our 2-year health guarantee covers genetic health conditions. We're not just breeders — we're a resource for you throughout your Shih Tzu's life. Our Ohio families know they can call or email us anytime with questions about grooming, training, nutrition, or health.

Nanny-Escorted Flight Delivery to Ohio

We take puppy delivery seriously. The flight nanny model is not just a convenience — it is a fundamental part of our commitment to each puppy's wellbeing. A professional pet nanny books a seat on the same flight as your puppy, carries them in an airline-approved soft-sided carrier under the seat, and provides constant care and comfort for the duration of the journey.

Contact us to confirm whether flight-nanny delivery to an agreed major airport is currently available for Ohio. Route, schedule, cost, airport, and handoff details require confirmation; city or doorstep delivery is not promised.

Flight-nanny delivery cost and available routes depend on the destination and current travel arrangements. Contact us for a current estimate and agreed airport handoff.

Shih Tzu Care in Ohio: What New Owners Should Know

Grooming Essentials

Shih Tzus have a beautiful, long double coat that requires regular maintenance. Plan to brush your dog three to four times per week to prevent tangles, particularly around the ears, armpits, and collar area. Most Ohio owners book grooming appointments every 6–8 weeks to keep their Shih Tzu in a manageable "puppy cut." This is especially practical during Ohio's wet, muddy spring months.

Eye Care

Shih Tzus' large, expressive eyes are prone to discharge and staining — a common trait in the breed. Wipe the corners gently with a damp cloth daily and keep the hair around the eyes trimmed to prevent irritation. Regular eye care prevents tear staining and keeps your dog comfortable.

Training & Socialization

Shih Tzus are clever and respond well to positive reinforcement training. Start obedience basics — sit, stay, come, down — as soon as your puppy arrives home. Early socialization with people, other dogs, and new environments builds confidence. Ohio has excellent dog-friendly parks and training facilities in Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland where your Shih Tzu can thrive.
